This selection determines which SAS product is used by default when you double-click the file in Windows Explorer or right-click the file and select Open. It is what is referred to as "the default product for SAS file types". Because some SAS file types are used by more than one SAS product, you should select the product that you want to use by default to open them. Your selection will determine the default product for all SAS file types that can be opened by more than one product.
If you want to specify a default SAS product for individual file types, first complete your deployment and then use the Manage SAS File Types task, which is available in the SAS Deployment Manager. The Manage SAS File Types task in the SAS Deployment Manager replaces the Manage SAS File Types tool that was available under the SAS start menu in previous releases of SAS.
The option, Use the existing default product for SAS file types, will be presented when adding a product to an existing installation of SAS software or when recording a response file that will be used to deploy software. Choose this option if you want to keep the default product that you selected during the initial installation of your SAS software or that you have changed using the Manage SAS File Types task.
Note: If you are installing the 32- or 64-bit version of SAS Foundation on a 64-bit Windows system when the other version is already installed, default associations with Base SAS will change to the newly installed version of SAS. Only the most recently installed version of SAS is used for SAS file types that are associated with Base SAS. If the Use the existing default product for SAS file types option is selected, default associations with Base SAS will change to the newly installed version of SAS, but other associations will not change.
